Disney’s The Lion King JR is playing at Pistarckle Theater starting next week. Performances are Tuesday, July 25th through Sunday, July 30th. The July 25 – 28 performances are at 10 a.m., for area camps. There are also performances on Friday, July 28th and Saturday, July 29th at 7 p.m., and Sunday, July 30th at 2 p.m. Tickets are $10 per child, and $15 per adult, and may be purchased directly online by clicking here.
The 60-minute musical, designed for middle-school aged performers, is based on the Broadway production directed by Julie Taymor and the 1994 Disney film. The all-youth cast features 33 students, led by Camp Director Lauren Brody-Clarke, Musical Director Mary Christensen, and Choreographer Marie Paul, and is will be a sell-out! According to Pistarckle Founder/Artistic Producer Nikki Emerich,“ Our youth adaptation of the popular Broadway show is sure to enchant and entertain all ages.”

The Lion King JR tells the story of the epic adventures of a curious cub named Simba as he struggles to accept the responsibilities of adulthood and his destiny as king. Along the way, the young lion encounters a colorful cast of characters including spunky lioness Nala, charismatic meerkat Timon, and loveable warthog Pumbaa. To claim his rightful place on the throne and save his beloved Pridelands , Simba must find his inner strength and confront his wicked Uncle Scar. The Lion King JR. features classic songs from the 1994 film such as “Hakuna Matata” and the Academy Award®-winning “Can You Feel the Love Tonight” as well as additional songs penned for the Broadway production.

Camp Director Lauren Brody-Clarke grew up on St. Thomas attended Antilles School, and graduated from UCLA Theater Film and TV department with a minor in musical theater. She has traveled the world performing, appearing in over 50 musicals, including appearing in the national tour of Mamma Mia and All That Jazz in NYC. She has directed theater camps and theater youth programs for 15 years, spreading her passion for the arts to new generations. Currently she is the Director of the Theater Arts Program at Marin Horizon School in the Bay Area, and continues to perform professionally with several theater companies there.
