Youth Classes in Performing Arts
Six week session, runs Monday through Thursday, 3:45 to 4:45 p.m., three class choices.Begins on Monday, September 24 through to Thursday, November 1. $10 per class, prepaid. May mix and match one to three classes - but must sign up for full 6 week run for each class. Bonus FREE Class on Wednesdays, 3:45 - 4:45 p.m. Learn to read music.

Mary has been an instructor with Pistarckle for many years, and was recently the Musical Director for the Pistarckle Summer Musical Theater Camp play, Oliver! She taught music in the Arizona State public school system for 17 years. During her tenure, her choirs earned many high honors both locally and nationally. While living in the Phoenix Metropolitan are, Ms. Christensen enjoyed teaching at Mesa Community College as a Piano instructor, Choral instructor, and as a music humanities instructor for seven years.
Ms. Christensen received her Bachelors of Arts in Choral Music Education from Arizona State University, and her Masters Degree in Multi-Cultural Education from Northern Arizona University.
Mary is a member of music educator organizations AMEA/nafme and ACDA. She has served in leadership positions in AMEA/nafme. After teaching private voice lessons for two decades, Ms. Christensen enjoys teaching vocal technique while discovering the joy of solo singing. She also creates time in her busy schedule to serve as adjudicator and guest conductor for solo and ensemble competitions for the music organizations.
Mary has enjoyed performing as a soloist in productions of Oratorios and also enjoys performing roles in musicals and operas.
Mary Christensen is currently teaching primary and intermediate music at Lockhart Elementary School and directing music at Pistarckle Theater on the Island of St. Thomas in the Virgin Islands.
- Pamela New/Acting
Pamela has worked with Pistarckle for many years. She was the recent Director of the successful Youth Musical Theater Camp featuring Oliver! She is a Shakespearean Scholar and was Director of the Pistarckle Shakespeare In-School Workshop Program and Annual All-Island Shakespeare Festival in 2017. Pamela has previously both acted and directed for Pistarckle Theater, and considers herself and ‘actors director’. She says “ I know what it is like to be on stage, with the lights in your face, the audience in the house, and to choke on my lines! I can always imagine myself in my actors shoes, and therefore I am able to support them in becoming more expert in their role.”
Pamela is a passionate educator, focusing on student centered teaching and directing with expertise in communications, theater, drama therapy, performance and visual art. Her 36 years of educational and therapeutic experience include studies in PGDip Drama Therapy from Herfordshire University, UK, Performers Diploma from the University of Cape Town, and teaching certification in practical speech and drama from the South African Guild of Speech and Drama.
Since moving to Saint Thomas over 20 years ago, she has taught communications, voice and diction, and theater at the University of the Virgin Islands, run the after school program at Antilles, ‘tutored all the participants of Poetry Out Loud on St. Thomas, was Shakespeare Scholar for Pistarckle Theater’s Shakespeare Festival this year,and was founder of the Tall Tales Children’s Theater and Arts Company that worked in public schools with special needs students.
- Lisa Bredahl/Dancing
Lisa teachers dance classes throughout several locations in St. Thomas. She has performed professionally with the 3 x 3 Dance, Company Dance Traverse, Young Michigan Dances, Kalamazoo Junior Dance Co, West Michigan Dance Collaborative and many other productions. She has a Bachelor of Arts in Dance, has taught dance since 1985 and has studied ballet/pointe, pas de deux, jazz, tap, hip-hop, modern, musical theatre, swing and Pilates.
- Gisele Crothers/Music
Gisele Crothers became involved in music when she joined the school band in the sixth grade. After graduating from high school, she continued to play the clarinet in the local community concert band which is now the North Oakland Concert Band in Michigan. She has also played in small ensembles, as well as many different church ensembles. She was a music leader at the church she attended for many years. After moving to a new location, she joined the Tawas Community Concert Band in Northern Michigan. Gisele is temporarily living in St Thomas now since her husband has been working here for fifteen months, and has several more months to work here. Gisele is looking forward to helping students develop music reading skills
